Nautilus fly reels are the finest reels made and are the fruit of 180 years of family tradition, innovation, and excellence. When you visit the Nautilus Reels factory in Miami, you encounter dedication amplified by passion, diligence fueled by tradition, and generations of experience with machinery. At Nautilus Reels, angler innovators will share with enthusiasm their cutting-edge advancements in fly fishing reel design and manufacturing in light of “Tested on Animals™ research and development with fly-targeted species from steelhead in British Columbia to trout in Montana to tarpon not far from the Nautilus camp.
TWICE THE STRENGTH, TWICE THE SMOOTHNESS, HALF THE STARTUP INERTIA
The newest addition to the Nautilus family is the CCF-X2. The multiple award winning dual action CCF-X2 drag system features twice the drag strength (20lbs+), twice the smoothness and half the startup inertia as the former CCF.
The CCF-X2 is featured in 4 sizes – the 6/8, 8/10, 10/12 and Silver King. All reels feature the made-for-fish fighting, big game handle and are fully sealed using our proprietary Activseal technology. Other components included in the CCF-X2 line are hybrid ceramic bearings, TPX bushings and an oversized drag knob to adjust the smoothest drag from zero to max in 6 full turns with our Infinajust system.
The 6/8 is a 4-inch large arbor 6-8 weight reel. For more line pick up, the 8/10 is a great 8 weight with almost 12 inches of line pick up with a WF8 line per turn of the handle. The 4.5-inch 8/10 and 10/12 reels share the same frame and the spools can be interchanged for a set up that covers 8 to 12 weight lines with just an extra spool.
The Silver King is the latest addition to the CCF-X2 line and is the world’s lightest 5-inch diameter true big game reel on the market. This dominator of all things silver picks up 14-inches of line per turn of the handle and will reel in your prize like none other.
In addition, this reel is fully sealed and loaded with hybrid ceramic bearings, TPX bushings and an oversized drag knob with Infinadjust range settings.
SPEY: We have always closely followed the evolution and growth of Spey fishing, and we now have yet another first for the fly fishing world: The Speyrings. As in every reel we design, we look to the past to make sure we don’t get stuck in it. The Spey world started to look back at full frame reels when they began using thinner running lines (0.025 diameter and less) as these full frames prevented the lines from slipping out of the frame. The problem we saw with full frame reels was the tremendous additional weight that required consumers to purchase dedicated reels for their Spey adventures (or fish thicker running lines over .030-inch diameter). Problem: Money and weight.
Our foresight in 2008 led to our Spey-specific spools for the NV line of reels, designed to prevent thin lines from slipping out and to lower the cost without adding much weight. Instead of purchasing a reel, all you needed was a Spey spool for your 8, 10 or 12 weight reel.
As the years passed and the market embraced this new concept, we kept thinking forward and now have a great solution that we are introducing with the Silver King: the Speyrings.
The Speyrings are four little rings that snap on the frame in key spots of the reel in mere seconds and close the frame/spool gap to 0.003-inch to barely let light through. Now we solved it all: running lines don’t slip out, and it costs nothing more while performing flawlessly. And you don’t have to purchase an entirely separate setup for your Spey or salt trip.
One reel fits all and dominates all while outperforming all others: The Silver King.
PERFECT IN BALANCE, FORM AND FUNCTION.
Since Nautilus first began making reels, we’ve given great attention to the Spey/two-handed segment of this sport. Over time, we have gathered a huge following in this niche fly fishing market, and we are constantly listening to what is coming and going and adapting our reels to meet the needs of these anglers.
The Nautilus NV Spey reels have been designed to maximize the effectiveness of thin running lines, and we feature the popular Giga arbor design for lightning fast line pick up and minimal line memory – critical components of distance casting.
These spools have been named to reflect the recommended range of grain weights for line heads, starting at the lowest recommended to the biggest line that will comfortably fit with at least 150 yards of 30 lb. backing.
The NV Spey 400-550 will fit your existing NV-G 8/9 frame and the NV Spey 450-750 fits the NV-G 9/10 frame.
Engineered for SERIOUS BUSINESS
Whether Spey or overhead casting a two handed rod, the reel requirements remain the same: large capacity to fit a modest amount of backing under these biggest of lines, and just enough weight to balance a 12 to 15 foot two-handed rod. The Nautilus NV Spey reels was specifically built to address the needs of Spey casters and two-handers. Ideal backing capacity and added weight for a perfectly balanced outfit.
Nothing compares. Drag, design and performance make the NV-G the ultimate fly reel.
The NV-G series are built on the tried, tested and trusted NV 5/6 through NV Monster frames, and they feature the patented and award-winning NV CCF Disc Braking System.
The G-Spool design transforms your NV reels into uber-arbor fly reels that pick up line faster than any other comparable reel in the market. The G-Spool (Giga Spool) design reduces the reel weight significantly and generates less line coiling and much faster line retrieval (up to 15 inches per turn on the G-10!).
The unique CNC machining on these reels gives the impression that the backing is floating above the arbor, creating significant air space under the backing, which promotes faster backing drying. Wet backing is the leading cause of corrosion in fly reels, and the G-Spool design dries 14 times faster than traditional designs.
Monster. Do we need to say more? Yes: The most heard comment from guides testing this reel was: “No questions asked. Usually customers will ask questions and why this and that, but with the G-10 the customer looks at it once and says “I am buying one of these when we get back to shore.” They immediately see the benefits.” The G-10 makes heads turn: Biggest 10 weight on the market, lighter than anything comparable, superb proven drag system, striking looks and almost 15” of line pick up per turn of the handle. Can’t beat that!
DESIGNED FOR LIGHTNESS, STRENGTH, SMOOTHNESS & SPEED
The Nautilus X-Series is an open-frame reel designed for lightness, strength, drag smoothness, and fast line pick up. The X-Series design has strong beams that extend from the center to a wide line guard. These angles allow for rear spool rim protection where the reel typically contacts the ground when the rod is leaned up against a wall or a car.
The totally new SCF-X drag is a sealed Teflon® and carbon fiber disc drag system. It is adjusted with a generous drag knob that offers superior gripping surface and texture for wet and cold fingers.
The highly ventilated arch design, coupled with the dual palming rim increases spool strength by 35 %. The sides of the frame leave the spool totally exposed, and the back spool rim has a generous 1/8″ secondary palming rim for added fish control. This heavy- duty secondary palming rim has the strength to withstand everyday wear and tear.
The spool is a new spin on our ultra light, award winning Giga arbor design. It is lighter than any spool of a similar size we have ever made.
Available in three frame sizes: XS – 3.25” Diameter, 3.8 oz, XM – 3.5” diameter, 4.1 oz, and a 4” frame XL that will accept the standard XL Giga arbor spool for a 6/7 weight and the XL MAX Giga arbor spool that will fit an 8/9 weight line. At a mere 4.7 ounces the XL and XL MAX will handle your larger fresh water species and light salt water needs perfectly.
Available in brushed titanium or black anodizing.
