Description

"Bright red is a hot color for steelhead.. It's probably my favorite color to employ when fishing behind other anglers in winter and spring.

The Mahony is a simple spey-style fly I tied in honor of Jerry Mahony of Seattle Washington, a fine angler who frequents the Sauk river. After the huge flood of 1990, the Skagit and Sauk Rivers saw many dramatic changes.

One of the positive changes was on the Sauk where a beautiful and reliably productive run was formed. Jerry Mahony was the first person I ever saw fishing it. So my immediate reference to the spot was "Mahoney's," hence the name of this now popular run and my red spey fly."
