**NEWS**
updated Apr 29, 2008

Sorry for the delay in editing this page, we have had a busy month with lots to do. Thank you to everyone who came out to play on our last Spey Day, it was an awesome turnout!!! I want to extend a special thanks to all of our suppliers, sales representatives, and pro staff who came out to help and made the day possible with all of the rods, and lines for everyone to try. Also, Scientific Anglers was extremely generous in arranging for Way Yin to come demonstrate, teach and help, and they provided many of our free giveaways. The Masset House was also very generous in their donation of a steelhead trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands, hot dogs, and the help of Jin Chong on the BBQ. Thanks again and I hope all of us can make it bigger and better in the years to come.

FINALLY the interior lakes are thawing and spring has finally arrived. For any of you planning trips in early May be sure to contact local lakes and lodges to make sure your favorite puddle is ice free as many of the lakes may still have a little ice for the next few weeks, and don;t forget to get your new fishing license.

Spring brings a new season for courses, and ours are filling up. Many of them have started already and others are soon to begin. Some of the upcoming courses still available are Beginner Fly Casting, Women's Spey Casting, and a new course for this year: On The Water Stillwater Fly Fishing Weekend.

The Stillwater Weekend Course will combine discussion with on the water demonstration and on the water practice, as well as some wonderful meals. This course will go over many of the different techniques used for targeting trout in our beautiful BC lakes and give the students a chance to practice these techniques on the water. It will also provide a great excuse for a weekend getaway complete with food and lodging. It will be hosted at the beautiful 7 1/2 Diamond Ranch which has a private lake with some gorgeous rainbows, and a beautiful "cabin" that sleeps eight and has all the amenitites. For more information please visit the Courses area of our website or give the Surrey store a call.

There has been some updates to our Specials link on the right, check it out for some great deals. Also a few new links have been added to the Links & Events section including easy access to the online Tidal and Non-tidal Waters Fishing Licenses.

Throughout the year we take names for those interested in Beginner Fly Tying Courses. As we plan the course and set dates we will contact everyone on the list. If you would like to start fly tying or have not done it for ages and feel you would benefit from a refresher this course is awesome. It runs for 5 consecutive weeks for 2 hours an evening (usually mondays).

We have received some of the first of the new Joe Saracione reels and are excited that there are more on the way. These reels are a classic serpentine handle design and are beautifully finished in Nickel Silver and highly polished Delrin side plates. Many of the reels are presold the rest are selling fast. Joe has come out of retirement to produce his classic reels for a couple more years. They are gorgeous and supplies are limited. Our initial order from Joe Saracione is completely sold out but I will have more coming in throughout the reel. The next model being produced is the 3 3/4 and 3 3/4 wide followed by the 4 3/4. I have at least one of each of these three models available. If you are interestes please call soon and get your name on the list. Future models that wil become available are 3 trout models, a 2-3/4, 3, and 3-1/4; a 3-1/2, 3-1/2 wide, 3-3/4, 3-3/4 wide, 4 Spey, 4-1/4 Spey, or 4-3/4 Spey.

Now on to fishing.....This time of year is what many of us stillwater anglers have waited patiently for over the last 6 months. I am sure most have you have spent some time reorganizing your fly boxes and replenishing the missing favorite patterns. It is finally time to put them to use. Many lakes are ice free, so dust off the rods and reels and get out there. Visit our fishing report on the blue bar on the left, for more information. Steelheaders still have a chance as May 1 brings the fly only month to the lower Chiliwack river. The salmon fry are all over the place and so are cutties looking to make a meal of them. Try the Harrison, Morris, Stave, Alouette, or Fraser and make sure you have a few minnow imitations gracing the foam of your fly box (and the end of your leader).

Send your digital Catch and Release Pictures to sales@myflyshop.com to be a part of our Picture of the month club. Please send in some recent photos as I would love to see a fish caught in the previous month, every month. Include your address and we will send you a free hat if we use your picture.

Dear Flyfisher,

You have found the Michael & Young Flyshop On-Line Catalogue! Here at M&Y we have a philosophy that the fly fisher comes first. We are not a destination T-Shirt and nick knack vendor; instead we try to appeal to the angler. All of our staff are experienced, well versed and respected fly anglers smitten by the art, science and romance of a well presented fly pattern. We are strictly dedicated to the fly angler and host one of the largest inventory of fly fishing related products in N. America.

Having been at this game for the last 20 years has given us the insight and know how to help the world wide fly fisher with any issues or concerns that he/she might have. We entered this on-line era 9 years ago fully aware that our past success had been founded on the principle of customer service, and even with the convenience of the internet and do it yourself shopping, we never want our customers to forget that we are and always will be there for them. ALL WE WANT IS HAPPY CUSTOMERS!

This web site contains many of the attributes that have made M&Y a success over all these years.

  • The fishing report is primarily designed to help our local angler, here in southern British Columbia, with the what, where?s and why?s to the current fishing season.
  • The courses that we offer are designed towards the angler who?s looking to further their fishing knowledge base. Everything from fundamental fly tying to entomology to the dynamics of the spey and single hand cast are covered at some point of the year.
  • The Catch & Release section captures some of the moments that have made fly fishing addictive for ourselves as well as our customers. If you have any jpg?s that you feel would contribute to this section please feel free to forward them to us with a short description or story behind the picture.
  • The On line store has everything that the fly angler could possibly need at the click of a mouse, if you can?t find it here there?s a good chance you do not need it!
  • The information section contains what you need to know about ordering, store locations, guided opportunity?s and much more.

Although we try to keep everything on the up and up, we do realize that it is almost impossible to keep up with ever changing Internet. In this we are trying to make changes and upgrades to our web site as much as possible. We have finally brought the site in house and customers should see changes on an almost weekly bases. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us with these issues, without your input we can not judge how we are doing!

To this end, our e-catalogue will be continually expanded until it contains everything that we sell, and please be aware that a hard copy of our mail order catalogue is just a phone call or e-mail away.
